On the 27th of October, the General Assembly of the Association of For-Profit Schooling (Gakkou Sechi Kaisya Renmei) commenced activities, drawing its participating members from incorporated for-profit schools. The first Councilor of the association, Tokyo Legal Mind University President Katsuo Sorimachi, spoke of a shared desire to “provide useful education for the people, together with the other for-profit institutions enabled through the Structural Reform Special Zones Designation.”
All eleven for-profit schools currently operating in Japan – established under the recent Structural Reforms Act – now belong to the Association. The participating corporations are comprised of one middle school, seven high schools, and three undergraduate/graduate universities.
The Association was established to promote the growth and development of for-profit schools in Japan, as well as to support public relations, information-exchange, and cooperative research among its members. The Association aims to expand its range of activities by encouraging newly established for-profit schools to seek membership, and by promoting further understanding and acceptance of for-profit schools nationwide.
